Students in Belle Fourche and Whitewood collected food for their local food banks recently.

In Belle Fourche, the food drive was a project of the Belle Fourche High School Student Council and the National Honor Society, but the entire school participated.

The food collected was donated to the Compassion Cupboard, which, according to the Rev. Del Neumeister, has approximately 150 families come in every month for food.

He said families range in size from one to eight people.

"If we must purchase groceries, we can spend approximately $4,000 a month to stock the shelves," Neumeister said. "We are available to anyone within the Belle Fourche area who is in need."

Every church family in Belle Fourche participates in the operation of the Compassion Cupboard, he said.
