A man lost a foot in a boating accident in southwestern South Dakota.

Officials say the man was swimming near the east end of Sheridan Lake on Saturday when the accident happened around 5 p.m.

The man was hit by the propeller of a boat that passed too close, and the man's foot was severed above the ankle.

The man was flown to Rapid City Regional Hospital for treatment, but his identity and condition was not immediately available.
