The South Dakota Department of Transportation says a project aimed at removing excess rock from the canyon wall near Bridal Veil Falls in Spearfish Canyon is expected to start next month and last about four weeks.

DOT officials say the rock removal will require regular closures of Highway 14A, known as Spearfish Canyon Road. Closures during blasting and cleanup could last eight hours, the DOT said in a release.
