A bill pre-filed for the Legislature would divert a portion of hunting license revenue into a fund for counties to use for road repair and maintenance.
The bill suggests that $1 from each license sold by the Game, Fish & Parks Department go into a new county road fund created within the state treasury.
The bill's sponsor, Rep. Kent Juhnke, said the checkoff fee is negotiable.
He says some of the road damage comes when hunters drive on back roads during bad weather.
GF&P Secretary Jeff Vonk said the department won't support the bill because sportsmen already pay for road repair through fuel taxes.
