Snow falls over Hills; cold wind chills expected

The snowfall that started Friday evening may continue through Saturday. The National Weather Service office in Rapid City predicted a snow accumulation Friday night of 1 to 3 inches, varying throughout the Black Hills.

A winter weather advisory was in effect from 8 p.m. Friday through noon Saturday for northwest South Dakota, the Northern Hills and parts of northeast Wyoming.

A strong cold front crossed through the area Friday night, according to the weather service, bringing gusty winds and some snow. Bitterly cold wind chills are expected to follow the front, with wind chills Friday night between minus 4 and minus 9.

Saturday, there will be a 40 percent chance of precipitation with wind chills between minus 7 and minus 12. Saturday night, there will be a 50 percent chance of snow with a low around minus 6 and wind chills between minus 12 and minus 22.
