RAPID CITY - A Rapid City man was taken out with the trash early Friday morning when the garbage bin he was in near Albertsons was emptied into a Fish Garbage Services truck.

Rapid City Fire Capt. Mark Kirchgesler said emergency vehicles responded to the corner of East Main Street and Steel Avenue. Fish employees on that route heard yelling in the truck and found the man inside.

Kirchgesler said the man's name will not be released. He said he did not know why the man was inside the garbage receptacle.

A Fish Garbage Services employee said this type of incident is rare but that it is not the first time employees have run across a person inside a garbage bin.

He said the compacting system in the garbage truck could easily crush a human.

Kirchgesler said emergency workers took caution removing the man from the garbage truck. He complained of minor injuries and was treated.

Kirchgesler said the process of removing the man from the truck without injuring him took a "fair amount of time."
