The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin work on state Highway 244 near Mount Rushmore starting Monday.

Department of Transportation spokesman Gary Dietrich said work will begin near Iron Mountain Road and head toward Mount Rushmore. He expected one lane of traffic would be closed in the repair area, but said travel delays will be minimal.

Flaggers will be used as necessary to help maintain traffic throughout the project. The work by J.V. Bailey Co., Inc. of Rapid City will involve concrete surface repair, joint resealing and guardrail upgrades.

The expected completion date is Oct. 23.

For more information, contact Dietrich at 673-1499 or Terry Jorgensen at 673-1303.
