Rapid City police Tuesday night were looking for a teenager who allegedly brandished a firearm in trying to rob a carload of people at the Sonic Drive-In restaurant on Mount Rushmore Road.
Police said the suspect was described as a slim Native American male, age 16 to 18, dressed in black and wearing a black South Pole hooded sweater.
Sgt. Rich Fox said at 9 p.m. that police received a report that four teenagers, ages 12 to 17, with a small child, were in a vehicle leaving Sonic's parking lot at 2316 Mount Rushmore Road when a young man approached them. "He pointed a gun at them, demanding money. When they said they didn't have any, he said to leave," Fox said.
The teenagers drove out of the area and contacted police on a cell phone.
