There are fewer fireworks stands around South Dakota this year.

Figures from the state Department of Revenue and Regulation show 311 retail licenses for fireworks were issued. That's down from 369 last year, 365 in 2006, and 351 in 2005.

Mike Rich of Rich Brothers fireworks in Sioux Falls says sales have been strong and better than last year. He says that might be because rain has greened up vegetation, lowering the worry about fires.
