A man killed in a late Tuesday/early Wednesday morning boating accident at Pactola Reservoir has been identified as Barry Meehan, 43, of Seattle.

Robert Meehan, 44, of Apple Valley, Minn., and Rachelle Meehan, 36, of Seattle were injured in the crash and taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Pennington County Sheriff's Office Lt. Brian Mueller said authorities received a call shortly after 8 a.m. Wednesday about an accident at Pactola.

Mueller said it was determined that late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning, a boat carrying the three Meehans struck a large rock on the south side of the lake near the entrance to Jenny Gulch.

Robert Meehan and Rachelle Meehan were seriously injured and stayed by the boat for several hours. Mueller said one of them flagged down a fisherman shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, and that person called for help.

Barry Meehan was initially reported as missing, but authorities found his body underwater at the accident scene.

Mueller said the accident remains under investigation, and it is not yet known if alcohol was a factor.

No criminal charges have been filed.

The reservoir was closed to boating activity Wednesday morning, but authorities reopened it for public use shortly after noon.
