PIERRE - The head of the tourism operation in South Dakota's state government, Billie Jo Waara, is leaving her job.

Richard Benda, secretary of the Department of Tourism and State Development, says Waara's last day will be Feb. 1.

Benda says Waara has done a "wonderful job" promoting South Dakota for the last three years.

He said he will consult with the tourism industry in the search for a new director.

State officials say Waara will move to Sioux Falls, where her husband has accepted a job.
