RAPID CITY - Rapid City police are trying to determine if a woman who lit herself on fire Tuesday afternoon did so intentionally or by accident.

Rapid City Police Sgt. Rich Fox said officers responded to a residence on Spruce Street shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, where the woman was on fire.

Fox said the woman was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital with significant burns.

He would not release the woman's name.

He said the woman was by herself and that it was unclear whether she intended to light herself on fire. "She's the only one who would be able to tell us," Fox said.

He said she was not in good enough condition Tuesday to speak with police.
