RAPID CITY - A utility subsidiary of Rapid City, S.D.-based Black Hills Corp. plans to build a 200 megawatt power plant in southeastern Colorado.

Black Hills Colorado IPP will build the natural gas-fired plant and sell the electricity it generates to Black Hills Energy-Colorado Electric, a subsidiary of Black Hills Corp., through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

The power will help Black Hills serve its 93,300 customers in southeastern Colorado, including Pueblo and Canon City.

That project announced Tuesday is subject to approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The facility is expected to cost $240 million to $265 million. It should be completed and ready to deliver power by 2012.
