MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL - Tens of thousands descended on Mount Rushmore today for live music, entertainment and fireworks for the memorial's Independence day celebration.
But despite growing concerns about the area's high-risk fire status, memorial officials said that the fireworks display still has the green-light.
"The cloud cover we're having today is keeping temperatures down and the humidity up, said Tom Farrell, public information officer for the memorial. "But we are constantly monitoring conditions and will make the final decision around 9 p.m."
Farrell also said that if wind speeds exceed 15 mph, then the fireworks would be canceled.
