DEADWOOD - The project to turn a historic Deadwood mining landmark into a convention center is on schedule and going smoothly.

Workers are turning the old Slime Plant into a huge hotel, casino and entertainment complex.

Deadwood Mountain Grand Hotel and Casino will include 100 upscale rooms and a 2,500 seat theater.

Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission official Kevin Kuchenbecker says the Slime Plant will be a big boost to the town.

The complex is to be finished by mid-2009.

The Slime Plant was built in 1906. It was used until 1973 to process gold from ore slurry, commonly called slime, from the Homestake Mine.
