Volunteer firefighters were able to douse one of the earliest wildfires of the year Monday, gaining containment on a 40 acre fire about eight miles northwest of Faith.

The MK Fire was reported about 11:32. The Faith Volunteer Fire Department sent four type 6 engines, one water tender and several overhead to the wildland blaze.

Justin Haines, incident commander, estimated the fire reached 40 acres in size before firefighters were able to get a line around the fire. Firefighters reached fullcontainment at 12:32 pm, according to a news release by the Northern Great Plains Interagency Dispatch.

The Faith Fire Department is now in the process of mopping up and should reach full control of the fire before night fall.

No homes were threatened by the fire. The cause of the fire is still undetermined at this time.
