SIOUX FALLS - A U.S. Justice Department report says South Dakota gang members are using social networking Web sites to recruit members and expand their drug dealing.

As the sites gain popularity, police say it's becoming valuable to not only monitor and track gang activity but also search for probation violations.

The report says Web sites such as Facebook and MySpace are used by gangs to "advertise their drugs … and also post pictures of themselves posing with drugs and/or weapons."

Although South Dakota gang members have an Internet presence, officials say many more people are just posing online as gang members.
