Frontier Airlines, which offers daily flights to and from Denver out of Rapid City Regional Airport, appears to have found a way out of bankruptcy protection: Republic Airways Holdings said it will sponsor the bankruptcy exit plan of the Denver-based carrier.
Indianapolis-based Republic said if creditors and the bankruptcy judge approve the move, Frontier would become one of its subsidiaries. Republic also operates a regional airline under its own name as well as Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America.
Republic supplied a $40 million debtor-in-possession loan to Frontier, so it's not a surprise that it could end up owning the company.
Frontier filed for bankruptcy protection in April 2008.
