The first Tucker Day Special Needs Rodeo drew more than 50 children participating in rodeo games before 500 spectators.

"Tucker Day was clearly all about these very special participants. The smiles on everyone's faces showed community support and fulfillment," LeeAnn Jensen said in an e-mail statement. She and her husband, Rich Jensen, hosted the Aug. 9 event at their Double Diamond Ranch near Hill City and plan to make it an annual event.

The Suncatcher Therapeutic Riding Academy brought 27 horses and 26 other animals to the show for a petting zoo. Other activities included panning for gold, face painting and balloon animals.

The rodeo grand entry showcased all the rodeo participants, local musicians, Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2010 McKenzie Haley, rodeo clown Duane Reichert, announcer Jim Thompson, Smokey Bear and the Hill City Fire Department & Ambulance crew.
