I attended the Veterans Day parade on Saturday and saw the banners honoring veterans and thought what a wonderful way to pay tribute to these men and women.
Sell or lease the civic center and fairgrounds to a concession company and build a three-story parking garage in the civic center parking lot that the city gets revenue and charge the civic center for security. It is time the city gets out of the entertainment business — it's a waste of the taxpayer’s money.
Government agencies must do like the taxpayer and make allowances for increased spending. Budgets must be reduced by 5 percent each year just like most taxpayers have to do to stay even with expense increase and lack of income increase.
I think we need to bring our state and city government salaries more in line with the private enterprise employees that work so hard to to make businesses a success with low paying jobs.
With the raise in property taxes and utilities, major questions lurking about health insurance, federal taxes, and pharmacy costs, loss of major parking near a new building will people be able to afford attending anything held there?
