PIERRE | Seventeen Native American seniors who are graduating from Pierre Riggs High school are receiving star quilts on Saturday.

KCCR radio reports that the school's traditional Wacipi (wah-CHEE'-pee) is being held at the Georgia Morse Middle School. The 34 eighth grade students moving from middle school to high school also will be honored.

Tynell Kocer, one of the event's organizers, says it's a way for the students to be honored as they make an important life transition.

The event beginning at 1 p.m. includes a ceremony, music, dancing, and a free buffalo feed
