Candidate seeks views in Ward 5

These past three months have been an unforgettable experience. I knocked on hundreds of doors in my campaign for City Council in Ward 5 and was just blown away by how many great people live here. If anyone doubts the kindness, hospitality, and forward thinking of Rapid City's people, I'd invite them to join me for a day knocking on doors and getting acquainted.

If I didn't get to your house in Ward 5 before the vote last week, I'm going to try again, because I'll be out knocking on doors again in the runoff election on June 27. I plan to campaign with civility and respect. I'll share my positive ideas for our future and want to hear yours.

In the meantime, may I ask a favor if you live in Ward 5? Mark your calendar for the election on June 27. I'd appreciate your vote. I promise to work hard, always keep an open mind, and never stop trying to find ways to bring people together so we can build a better future for our great city. Thank you!

US shouldn't quit climate accord

195 countries including the European Union, China, and Russia have agreed that global warming is real and at the 2015 Paris Agreement all 195 countries committed to work on the problem. The consensus is that once the minimum warming of an additional 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit is reached scientists simply don’t have any answers on how to address the especially damaging consequences. The three holdouts from the agreement are Nicaragua, Syria and the United States.

We can certainly continue to hold out and be viewed as arrogant, selfish and stubborn, but in the meantime our reputation with both allies and even countries we may need to negotiate with in the future will continue to erode while the warming continues to escalate. We can invest in renewable energy sources and save our natural resources. Minimal jobs are sacrificed while an overwhelming number of new jobs are created. If the “especially damaging consequences” are irreversible, are you really prepared to explain to your children and grandchildren that you were too busy to get involved?

Please write your representatives and ask them to support the agreement of 195 countries before it’s too late. Thank you.
