The Black Hills Paddlers and Pennington County Water Rescue Team will give live safety demonstrations at 10 a.m. Saturday at Canyon Lake's Chimney Picnic Shelter overlooking the upstream end of Canyon Lake in Rapid City.

Over the past decade, several tragic paddling fatalities have occurred on the state's rivers and lakes. Last May, 15-year-old Justin Lewis of Hill City drowned while kayaking on Deerfield Lake.

The Black Hills Paddlers group has recently published a guide to Black Hills lakes and streams. The guide can be reviewed at

For more information on Saturday's event, contact Kelly Lane at 484-4074 or Justin Herreman at 390-3010.
