Rapid City Schools Foundation board members paid surprise visits to several classrooms around town Wednesday, presenting teachers with thousands of dollars in donations.
One of the morning's presentations included the delivery of a $1,000 check to West Middle School teacher Shelley Roth. Roth applied for a grant to develop an eBook collection that would expand the walls of the school's traditional library. The grant was made possible by a partnership with Brett and Patricia Lawlor.
A total of $20,000 in grants will be presented after the second round of surprise visits from the foundation on Friday.
Awards presented on Wednesday included two $1,000 grants at South Canyon Elementary School, a $1,000 and a $848 grant at West Middle School; a $1,500 grant at Southwest Middle School; and a $300, $1,000 and $1,750 grant at Rapid City Stevens High School.
