Four people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck late Wednesday at the intersection of Milwaukee Street and East College Avenue.

The conditions of the injured were not immediately available, but Rapid City police described the accident in a tweet as a "serious crash."

The wreck occurred shortly before 7:45 p.m. According to Rapid City Police Sgt. Craig Cassen, a Jeep Cherokee was traveling north on Milwaukee Street when it was rear-ended by a car. The car, a four-door sedan, then crashed through a metal wire fence and came to a stop in the front yard of a home at the East College Avenue intersection.

The driver of the Jeep and three people in the sedan were taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where they were treated for their injuries.

Cassen said speed was a factor in the crash, but police were still investigating whether alcohol also contributed to it. The crash caused street closures in the area late Wednesday, as an accident reconstruction team investigated the scene. Police were assisted by the Rapid City Fire Department and Pennington County Sheriff's Office.
