ABERDEEN | The South Dakota Board of Regents has elected Dean Krogman as its new president.

Krogman succeeds Kathryn Johnson, who served in the position for the past two years. Johnson remains on the board with her term continuing through 2017

Krogman directs government relations activities for the South Dakota State Medical Association and is also a real estate broker. The Brookings resident served in the South Dakota Legislature from 1984 to 1989 and holds bachelor and master's degrees from South Dakota State University.

Krogman says that by enhancing academic quality and student success, the regents can produce a more skilled workforce that translates into economic development and a higher quality of life.

Randy Schaefer of Madison will serve as vice president, and Randy Morris of Spearfish will be the board's secretary.
