PIERRE - The South Dakota Health Department will get a $1.2 million grant for cancer prevention from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention.

Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in South Dakota, Sen. Tim Johnson, a prostate cancer survivor, said in a prepared news release.

"I understand that efforts to encourage prevention and early detection are critical to South Dakotans affected by cancer," he said.
