SIOUX CITY, Iowa - An attorney who was a prosecutor in the trial of an American Indian Movement member charged with killing two FBI agents in 1975 died after he lost control of his car.

Robert Sikma was one of two people in the car when it crashed Friday night on Interstate 29. He was 66.

He lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree, police said.

A passenger, Kathryn Reicks, 52, also died from injuries she suffered in the crash.

The investigation was continuing.

Sikma graduated from the University of Iowa in 1966.

He was one of three prosecutors in the trial of Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of killing two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.

Sikma had his own private practice in Sioux City and had been a volunteer community panel judge for the Woodbury County drug court.

Funeral arrangements were pending.
