It's the Super Bowl of working-horse contests — the two-day Ranch Horse Competition, with its multiple categories, classes and divisions, not to mention the many events, kicks off at 8 a.m. Sunday in the James Kjerstad Events Center at the Central States Fairgrounds. The event continues Monday.

At 10 a.m., that same arena will host the commercial heifer show and sale and the bred heifer sale.

The College Fair at 9:30 a.m. at the South Balcony area of the Barnett Arena in  the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is billed as the opportunity for high-school rodeo athletes to communicate with National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association coaches from South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa, Oklahoma and Wyoming.

At 1 p.m. in the civic center's Barnett Arena, South Dakota's top three high-school rodeo competitors in 10 events will compete for scholarships, travel funds and more in the High School 20X Extreme Showcase.

And at 2 p.m. Sunday, the golden throats take center stage at Rushmore Hall at the civic center for the Auctioneer's Association Bid-Calling Contest. That's 2 p.m., 2 p.m., 2 p.m., do I hear 3?
