A 20-year-old woman was charged with assault after punching a police officer in the face, according to Rapid City police.

Police said a tip Friday afternoon led to a parking lot near East Meade and Hawthorn streets where they saw Randi Steele, who had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.

After a brief chase, Steele was apprehended but struggled with the police officer who was attempting to handcuff her. While resisting the arrest, police say Steele punched the officer, who was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital and treated and released.

Steele is charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement while resisting arrest, false personation and the probation violation.
