Civility is AWOL in our country
Civility: 1. Courtesy 2. A courteous act or utterance. — Webster's Dictionary
It sure seems "civility" has left the public square where ideas are discussed and debated of late. Sad for us, sad for our nation. We can and we must do better for the public welfare.
Tax bill cuts wind power credits
Gov. Daugaard’s Nov. 30 op-ed to South Dakota newspapers notes wind power invested $2 billion plus in S.D. for construction and maintenance of 14 current projects plus adds 2,000 jobs. Developing projects require congressional assistance because changes in the Dec 1, 2017, Senate tax cut bill destroy renewable energy projects.
Late inclusion of the Base Erosion Anti-Abuse Tax (BEAT) provision prevents renewable energy projects from monetizing tax credits. BEAT was designed to make it harder for corporations to dodge taxes, but also sweeps up tax credits, including renewable energy Production Tax Credit (PTC) for wind projects and the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) for solar projects. The BEAT provision kills renewable energy projects by eliminating S.D. wind energy’s using renewable energy credits.
Prevailing Winds and other new S.D. projects triple wind power and bring over $2 million into S.D. in next three years and creates over $350,000,000 in tax revenue in next 30 years, plus thousands of long-term jobs.
Time is short. Please contact Sens. Thune and Rounds and Rep. Noem to request the BEAT Provision be removed from the tax cut bill to create jobs, grow the tax base and create new economic growth now.
