Bjorkman won't be a Trump surrogate
Shantel Krebs has done a decent job as Secretary of State. In contrast to her disgraced predecessor, she has treated all parties fairly and professionally. That makes her Congressional candidacy even more disappointing than it would be otherwise. She pledges to be a rubber stamp for Donald Trump. Yes, South Dakota preferred Trump over Hillary Clinton by a strong margin. But that doesn't mean South Dakota would benefit from a Representative who automatically follows his erratic stands, rather than exercising independent judgment.
Worse yet, Shantel voices anti-Muslim prejudice and proposes that Muslims be forced to register with the government. This is unAmerican and unconstitutional. Muslims and other minority religions are not a threat to our society. It's sad to see a former Miss South Dakota degenerate into a queen of hate.
Do we want a Representative who'll begin to heal our divisions and work across party lines? Tim Bjorkman, a former judge who has seen the best and the worst of humanity, is ready to be a statesman, not a rubber stamp.
American oligarchs seek more power
With big business consolidating its power by swallowing up not only little business but also other giant conglomerates, we can expect a worldwide Orwellian society that is run not by politicians but by (you guessed it) CEOs. We are trying something similar now. If we accept this boob, we will accept anybody. The Republicans, on their face, support these oligarchs or "robber barons" if you will but these villains have co-opted part of the Democratic Party as well.
It looks like Bernie was and is the only "clean" participant that might look out for us little guys if he were allowed to hold office. Can you imagine the news talking about an increase in senior's Social Security benefits instead of how we must cut entitlements to cover the deficit from the big tax breaks?
As long as we are borrowing against the future (that's both parties) maybe we should pay back the past. Haven't both parties raided Social Security? My memory says yes. Not all have a (boom and bust) 401(K) to brag about; the only thing we have is a supposedly safe Social Security benefit. By the way, thanks to Bannon, Trump can now join the "et tu" movement.
Why Norwegians are staying home
Our racist president wants more people from Norway to immigrate to our shores. Why would any self-respecting, semi-intelligent, rational Norwegian want to move to the U.S.?
Let's see: Universal health care? Nope. Employment security? Nope. Parental leave? Nope. Healthy environment? Nope. Adequate retirement? Nope. Funded education? Nope. Vacations and quality leisure time? Nope. Affordable housing? Nope — and so on.
