Spartans tab Tyhurst as new hoops coach

Spearfish High School has hired Adam Tyhurst to head the boys basketball program.

Tyhurst is currently a lower-level coach for the Yankton Bucks and previously coached at Eastern Oregon University and Dakota Wesleyan University. He will also be teaching math at Spearfish High School.

Tyhurst will take over the coaching duties from Erik Skoglund, who replaced Tom Young as the head boys basketball coach in Mitchell.

"We were fortunate to have had a number of qualified applicants for this position, and feel that Coach Tyhurst will best fit into our program both athletically and academically," Spearfish activities director Karen Hahn said in a press release.

Racers achieve Level 2 Club Recognition

The Rapid City Racers have received Level 2 Club Recognition from USA Swimming. This is currently the highest level of recognition achieved by a swim club in South Dakota or Wyoming.

There are four levels of achievement within the recognition program. USA Swimming designed the program to help clubs establish long-term successful clubs. The USA Swimming Club Recognition program is one that recognizes achievement in multiple areas.                                         -- Journal staff
