College Basketball Roundup: Metro State routs Mines men

The NCAA Division II No. 12-ranked Metro State men's basketball opened its season in impressive fashing, rolling to an 82-51 victory Saturday at home against South Dakota School of Mines.

The loss dropped the Hardrockers to 3-5 on the season, while the Roadrunners are 20-6 all-time in season-opening games.

Donte Nicholas and Brian Minor carried the offensive load for Metro State, with Nicholas scoring a career-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including four 3-pointers.  Minor dropped 13 points and had seven assists, five steals and four rebounds.  

Robbie Fedor was the lone Hardrocker to reach double figures, finishing with 11 points.

BLACK HILLS STATE 87, UC-COLORADO SPRINGS 76: Black Hills State raced out to a 43-28 first half lead and then held off UC-Colorado Springs in the second half to record an 87-76 win over the Mountain Lions in Colorado Springs on Saturday night in a men’s college basketball game.       

Luke Enos and Cain Atkinson combined for 40 points in the Yellow Jacket win. Black Hills shot the ball extremely well all night as they went 34-of-58 for 58.6 percent. Clay Pottorff added 10 points with Will John Johnson snaring a game-high 15 rebounds in the win.

BOSTON COLLEGE 75, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE 58: South Dakota State fell into an early hole on Saturday against Boston College and eventually fell by the score of 75-58.

The loss drops the Jacks to 2-2 on the season.
