SIOUX FALLS — Winner raced out to an 18-point halftime lead and beat Sioux Valley 59-34 in the fifth-place game Saturday at the South Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament.
Winner (22-4) led 32-14 at the half. The Warriors shot 44 percent while holding the Cossacks (19-7) to just 26 percent.
Sioux Valley was 3-for-20 on 3-point tries.
Zach Horstman had 18 points and Skyler Kuil 10 for Winner. Horstman made eight of 10 free throws.
Jesse Schilling had 13 points to lead Sioux Valley.
THIRD-PLACE GAME
ABERDEEN RONCALLI 53, McCOOK CENTRAL/MONTROSE 43: A big fourth quarter powered Aberdeen Roncalli to a 53-43 victory over McCook Central/Montrose in the third-place game of the South Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament on Saturday.
The Cavaliers (23-3) outscored the Cougars 16-4 over the final eight minutes. Christian Cox scored 14 points and Andrew Holmstrom added 11 for Roncalli.
Brandon Feterl and Mark Huls scored 10 points apiece to lead McCook Central/Montrose (20-6).
SEVENTH-PLACE GAME
ELK POINT/JEFFERSON 65, CROW CREEK 43: Elk Point/Jefferson pulled away in the second half to beat Crow Creek 65-43 in the seventh-place game at the South Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament.
Elk Point/Jefferson (19-7) led 28-26 at the half.
Ethan Pace lead the Huskies with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Ben Staum had five 3-pointers for 15 points, and Brock Zeller added 12.
Keenan World Turner led Crow Creek (16-10) with 14 points.
