MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Trevor Clifton pitched five scoreless innings, leading the Tennessee Smokies over the Montgomery Biscuits in a 7-2 win on Monday.
Clifton (1-2) picked up the win after he struck out five and walked one while allowing one hit.
Tennessee went up 4-0 in the seventh after Zack Short hit a two-run single and Trey Martin stole home.
The Biscuits cut into the deficit in the eighth inning when Dalton Kelly scored on a forceout and Jermaine Palacios scored on a wild pitch.
Genesis Cabrera (0-2) went six innings, allowing one run and two hits in the Southern League game. He also struck out six and walked four. Dakota Mekkes pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
Tennessee took advantage of some erratic Montgomery pitching, drawing a season-high 10 walks in its victory.
