The Black Hills men’s basketball team crept back into the land of the ranked.

The Yellow Jackets, coming off wins over Jamestown College and Valley City State last week, are No. 25 this week in the latest NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 poll, announced Monday.

Black Hills State (17-7 overall) was ranked four weeks ago — at No. 24 — and now has been recognized six times this season.

After holding down the second spot in each of the last six polls, Walsh, Ohio, moves up to No. 1 for the first time since Dec. 7, 1997.

Oklahoma Wesleyan, ranked No. 2 this week, was the top team for the last 12 polls before losing on Jan. 30 and Feb. 2. Walsh earned eight first-place votes and 429 points, while Oklahoma Wesleyan was a close second at seven first-place nods and 426 points.

Oregon Tech earns the No. 3 position for the fifth straight week, followed by No. 4 Indiana-Southeast and No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan.

The Dakota Athletic Conference has just two teams in this week’s poll with Minot State joining the Yellow Jackets. The Beavers are ranked No. 19, up four spots from No. 23 last week.

On the women’s side, the Black Hills State women make the biggest move up the poll this week, moving up to No. 6 after being ranked No. 10.

The Yellow Jackets, who also swept Jamestown and Valley City State last week, are 19-5 on the season.

The top-three teams retained their ranking for a second consecutive week.

No. 1 Hastings collected all 16-possible first-place votes, followed by second-ranked Davenport and third-ranked Cedarville. Northwestern leapfrogged conference foe Briar Cliff to take over at No. 4, while the Chargers drop back to No. 5.

Jamestown College falls from No. 7 to No. 10 this week, while Minot State holds at No. 13.
