After dropping its first game of the season on Friday, Rapid City Christian bounced back as it cruised past Faulkton for a 61-37 victory at the Huron Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Comets took an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, before holding Faulkton to just five points in the second for a 36-17 advantage at the half.
Christian held the lead the rest of the way for its third win of the season.
"It was a good bounce-back win for us," Comet coach Kyle Courtney said as his team spent the night in Mitchell rather than risking the bad weather conditions.
Zane Schlabach paced the Comets with 15 points, Levi Vanden Bos added 13 points and Jack Roisum finished with nine.
Jayden Melius paced Faulkton with 10 points, while Nathan Vetch chipped in with nine.
The Comets (3-1) will play at Wall on Thursday.
HEMINGFORD 59, CUSTER 41; Hemingford, Neb., finished out the Chadron Holiday Classic with a third-place victory over Custer on Saturday.
No other information was made available for this game.
Custer (2-4) will travel to Hill City on Thursday.
CUSTER 54, CHADRON 43: Custer picked up its fourth win of the season with a win over Chadron, Neb., in the title game of the Chadron Holiday Classic on Saturday.
McKenzie Becker led the Wildcats with 15 points, while Tori Glazier and Tayler Herman chipped in with 13 apiece.
Dana Dunbar and Carstyn Hageman paced Chadron with 12 points apiece and Peyton Underwood finished with 11,
Custer (4-2) will play at Hill City on Thursday.
Scoopers finish fourth at Floyd Farrand Invite
The Sturgis wrestling team took fourth place on the final day of the Floyd Farrand Invitational in Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon.
Harrisburg finished the weekend in the top spot with a score of 203, followed by Watertown with 191 and Brandon Valley with 173.5.
The Scoopers weren’t far off a third-place finish with 171 and Vermillion rounded out the top five with 129.5.
Spearfish closed out the day in ninth place with 90.5.
Sturgis had three competitors take the top spot in their respective weight classes, starting with Jacob Wood, who dropped Riley Hollingshead at 113 pounds by decision (5-1).
Bailey Brengle finished first at 152 pounds with a 7-5 decision over Damion Schunke of Brandon Valley and Joel Carpenter (220 pounds) defeated Logan Warzecha of Harrisburg by decision (3-1) at 220 pounds.
The Scoopers also had three wrestlers finish in third place, including Shae Owens (120 pounds), Wren Jacobs (145) and Jake Sailer (160).
The Spartans had three fifth-place finishers, including Max Sailor (126), Matthew Ackerman (145) and Tashon Clark (152).
Next up, Sturgis will travel to the Madison Invitational on Jan. 13, while Spearfish takes on Belle Fourche, St. Thomas More and Hill City in Belle Fourche on Thursday.
Raiders take sixth in Fargo
Rapid City Stevens couldn’t make up much ground on the last day of the Rumble on the Red tournament in Fargo, N.D., as it finished in sixth place.
Scott West held on for first place with 186.5, Willmar was second with 142.5, while Albert Lea Area took and Perham shared a third place finish with 135.5.
Stoughton rounded out the top five with 132, followed by the Raiders with 125.5.
Dante Colicheski led Stevens with a second-place finish, losing by pin fall (3:!4) to Tyler Buesgens of Scott West in the first place match at 182 pounds.
Spencer Stockman finished in third at 132 pounds with a decision win over Mark Buringa of St. Charles, and Cody BeVier lost his third-place matchup with Jackson Stauffecker at 126 pounds (fall, 4:46).
Cooper Voorhees (145 pounds) finished in sixth place with a loss to Jacob Tvinnereim of Jackson County Central by decision (4-2).
Stevens will be back in action on Friday at the Bismarck Rotary Tournament.
Central goes 2-1 on final day of The Clash
Rapid City Central closed out the second and final day of The Clash in Rochester, Minn., with a 2-1 record on Saturday.
The Cobblers started the day with a win, taking out Rochester Mayo, Minn., 50-27.
In its second dual, Central used a tiebreaker (most technical falls) to defeat Frazee, Minn. (35-35), before losing a close one to Providence Catholic, IL., 36-34.
The Cobblers will compete at the Bismarck Rotary starting next Friday.
