Rapid City Stevens girls’ tennis was unable to close the gap between it and Sioux Falls Lincoln as the Raiders took third at the state tournament in Sioux Falls.
Lincoln won easily with 650 points, Sioux Falls O’Gorman finished second at 508, Stevens had 494, Mitchell finished fourth with 421.5 and Watertown took fifth with 374.
The Raiders did have a state champion, as Katie Conrad took home the fifth flight title with a win against Ellie Dobbs from Lincoln 6-4, 6-2.
Ashley Lundstrom was in the title match of the flight three singles bracket but bowed out to Johanna Brower of Lincoln 7-6 (4), 7-5. The Raiders also had the team of Ingrid Anderson and Abby Dehler in the flight two doubles championship but fell to Brower and Emily Whitney of Lincoln 6-3, 7-5.
Tatum Olson and Payton Crawford fell in the third flight doubles final to Sarah Zimmerman and Madison Bohlen from Mitchell 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
Lincoln won three of the six individual flights and one of the doubles flights.
Spearfish finished seventh with 272, St. Thomas More came in ninth at 240, Rapid City Central finished 17th at 66 and Rapid City Christian 19th with 40.
Anderson from Stevens finished third in the flight two singles, topping Avery Larson from Mitchell 10-5. Payton Crawford, also from Stevens, took third in flight four with a 10-4 win over Abby Jackson of O’Gorman.
Bridget Raymond from STM finished fifth in flight four with a 10-7 win over Zoe Donelan of Harrisburg 10-7 and Dehler from Stevens beat Maggie Schaefer from Yankton 11-9 for fifth in the sixth flight.
CUSTER 3, PINE RIDGE 2: The Wildcats bounced back to win the final two sets over the Lady Thorpes on Saturday.
Custer prevailed in a hard-fought match, 21-25, 25-23, 27-29, 25-11 and 15-13.
No individual statistics were made available.
Custer, 14-9, will be at Hot Springs Tuesday, while Pine Ridge, 16-5, will be at Little Wound Tuesday.
Belle Fourche goes 1-3 in Redfield tournament
After winning its first 18 matches of the season, the Belle Fourche volleyball team not only suffered its first lost, but went just 1-3 in the Pheasant Fall VB Classic in Redfield.
The Broncs fell to Redfield-Doland 25-18, 25-19, defeated Wosley-Wessington 25-20, 25-12, fell to Groton Area 25-20, 22-25, 25-17 and dropped a 25-22, 25-18 decision to Beresford.
Belle Fourche, 19-3, is at Lead-Deadwood on Thursday.
BELLE FOURCHE 59, PINE RIDGE 6: After losing its first four games of the season, Belle Fourche earned its third consecutive victory as it ran past Pine Ridge on Friday night.
Neither team was able to find the endzone in the first quarter, before the Broncs scored 21 to take a 15-point advantage into the half.
Belle Fourche added 17 points in the third, before scoring 21 more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Dylan Burns paced the Broncs with 142 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, while Kelby Olson chipped in with one touchdown on 77 rushing yards.
Tate Hostetter completed five passes for 61 yards and two touchdowns, and Jackson Tyndall caught four passes for 49 yards and one score.
Halin Bad Bear led Pine Ridge, as he completed 10 passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.
Belle Fourche (3-4) hosts St. Thomas More on Friday, while Pine Ridge (5-2) travels to Sturgis.
