Thanks to some inclement weather, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview Invitational was shorted to just two rounds – one on Monday and one on Tuesday at the Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo.
The Colorado State – Pueblo ThunderWolves won the tournament carding a team score of 565 while UCCS was just four strokes back in second place with 569 strokes and Colorado Christian settled for third with 572.
South Dakota Mines shaved 10 strokes of its team score from Day one to Day two (342-332) for a total of 674 and finished in 10th place.
Colorado Christian's Chase Carleson won the tournament with a five-under-par score of 137 while Colin Prater of UCCS was just two strokes off the pace in second with a 139.
Mines' low round was brought in by senior Issac Bliek who posted a 36-hole score of 162 (85-77) for 56th place.
Hardrocker sophomore Brock Ehlers was just one shot back in 57th with a 163 (79-84), sophomore Jamison Smith put up a 172 (89-83) for 60th place, sophomore Garret Hohn finished 62nd with a 177 (89-88) and junior Steven Bendt came in with a 179 (90-89).
Deadline set for Spearfish Hall of Fame nominees
The deadline for the 2017 nominations to the Spearfish High School Athletic Hall of Fame is Dec. 8. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize men and women who have excelled through athletic participation, coaching or contributions to the Spearfish High School athletic program. Nominees for participation must have graduated in the Class of 2012 or before.
Nomination forms for eligible candidates are available at the Spearfish High School District website at www.spearfish.k12.sd.us , the High School Activities office or may be requested by calling 717-1206.

Two Yellow Jackets earn triathlon honors
Following the Collegiate East Region Qualifier, two Black Hills State University triathlon members were named to the College Triathlon Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.
Mathilde Bernard, who placed second among Division II racers in Saturday's event, was named the All-Region Freshman Athlete. After finishing in 1:11.0, Bernard was also named to the All-Region Team. She was joined by Kaylee Lamb, who finished in 1:13.24, also earned All-Region honors.
The Yellow Jackets finished second in Division II at the East Region Qualifier. The scheduled triathlon was raced as a duathlon, in a run-bike-run format, due to water conditions. All five student-athletes from BHSU qualified for the Collegiate National Championships, which will be held in Arizona next month. Bernard and Lamb were joined by Katie Christy, Cayley Schmitt, and Taylor Ihmels in the competition.
Black Hills State next competes at the Pumpkinman Triathlon on Oct.21 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Ticket deadline upcoming for Chadron State Hall of Fame banquet
Tickets for the 2017 Chadron State College Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Dinner are still available for the Nov. 4 event, and the deadline of Oct. 20 for purchasing admission is approaching soon.
The ceremony will be held in the Student Center ballroom at the Chadron State campus at 7 p.m., following an away football game at Black Hills State University, scheduled for noon in Spearfish. Admission is $20 for adults and $15 for minors under 18 years old.
Inductees include Cody Beguin, who played football and also wrestled for the Eagles, football players Mike Brownfield, Chris Evans, Jeff Japp and Anthony Simmons, wrestlers Joe Callahan and Josh Schommer and basketball standout Otis Frazier. The 1994-95 women's basketball team will also be inducted. Following their induction, the Hall of Famers will also receive an invitation to be recognized during the home football game on Nov. 11.
Gary Gross Memorial 3 Stick tourney set
The Gary Gross Memorial 3 Stick golf tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday at hart Ranch.
The 18-hole event (handicaped and flighted) will consist of stroke play and only three clubs can be used.
There is a $35 entry fee for season Passholder/HartSmart member (includes $10 donation to CASA). There will be a $65 entry fee fpor the public.
