Due to what is expected to be another big snowstorm, the Baur Invitational home meet for track and field at O’Harra Stadium has been cancelled for the weekend.
Instead, the Hardrocker men and women’s teams will take off to Golden, Colorado, Thursday afternoon to beat the snow and compete in the Kit Mayer Invitational hosted by Colorado School of Mines. Black Hills State will also compete in the meet.
With predicted weather in the lower 50s and partly cloudy, the meet will kick off on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. beginning with pole vault, and track events will follow beginning at 11:15 a.m. Event that were to be held on Friday, like the javelin and shot put will be moved to the end of Saturday’s events. Kayla Gagen and Madison Larsen will be the two to keep an eye out for in the javelin throw after placing in last weekend’s meet.
Sprinters Kevin Thompson, Jeremy Gonzales and Kevin Ptak are all anticipated for this weekend due to setting their personal-best marks at last weekend’s invitational.
Most recently, a contingent of Yellow Jackets competed at the CU Invitational in Boulder, Colorado. The men's 4x400 meter relay team set a new school record. The team of Garrett Snook, Brian Kjerstad, Taylor Hepp, and Tristan Hepp, finished fourth in the race in 3:17.12. Black Hills State secured four podium finishes at the meet. Tristan Hepp was third in the 400 meter hurdles (52.68), the 4x100 meter relay team (Kjerstad, Tristan Hepp, Mark Fruechte, Markez Boykin) was third in 42.52, Allan McDonnell was third in the high jump (6 feet, 7 inches), and Alexandra Richards was third in the javelin (133-9).
