Disc golf club schedules events

The Black Hills Disc Golf Club has four events scheduled over three days later this month.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, the club hosts the Suzuki Special at Jackson Park. Pre-registration is not required. The event is a PDGA C tier with $500 added cash and prizes.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, the club will hold the Discraft Ace Race at 8 a.m. at Omaha Park. Registration is closed, but there may be openings at the event because of those who don’t show up.

Also on Aug 25 will be the club's Match Play Championship at 10 a.m. at Omaha Park. Cost is $5 to enter. This event is open to the first 16 players who sign up with Scott Caesar at rambleon06@yahoo.com.

The next regional disc golf event is the South Dakota State Disc Golf Championships in Spearfish on Sept, 27-29 on the recently expanded 27-hole disc golf course on the rim of Spearfish Canyon. For more info, go to spearfishdisc.com.

West River FCA sponsoring speaker

The West River South Dakota chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes is sponsoring a presentation by character coach Wade Salem at the Rapid City Central High School theater on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m.

Salem is the founder and president of Character Matters in Arizona, which helps coaches establish a character culture with their programs. He comes from a coaching family and has worked almost two decades with hundreds of coaches and teams from every level.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Attendees should use the east doors at Central High School to access the old theater.
