CHADRON, Neb. - The Chadron State, Neb., softball team earned a two-game sweep over Black Hills State on Wednesday afternoon in Chadron. The Eagles trailed early in both games after allowing first-inning home runs, but they battled back to earn 6-5 decisions in both contests.

"Any time you play at home and get a couple wins, it gives you confidence," first-year CSC coach Rob Stack said. "We know we can come from behind, but we were able to be successful because we didn't give up and that's huge for our confidence."

The endings to both games were unconventional. In the first game, Chadron State's Allison Hendricksen roped a walk-off triple down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Casey Williams. In the second contest, the Eagles' Katelyn Moore scored the winning run in the ninth inning on a passed ball while Blair McEndaffer trotted to first after being intentionally walked.

Black Hills State jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first game thanks to Brittany Montgomery's grand slam in the first inning off of CSC's Cassie Humphrey. The Eagles responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, but the Yellow Jackets tacked on one more in the top of the second. However, the Eagles continued to whittle away at BHSU's lead and eventually plated three runners in the bottom of the fifth when Stephanie Hillman and Hendricksen scored off of bases loaded walks. CSC's Andrea Wyman scored the tying run on a passed ball.

Chadron State, 7-7-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will host Adams State (19-6 overall, 8-4 RMAC) in a doubleheader Friday afternoon beginning at noon.

Black Hills State (1-5 overall) will host Jamestown, N.D., on Friday and Saturday.
