JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The Black Hills State women and Dickinson State men won the team titles at the 2008 Dakota Athletic Conference outdoor track & field championships on Sunday.

"I just want to point out the work from the staff at Black Hills State - coaches Terry Long, Christian Nsiah, Jeremy Cole and Calli Ackerman," Black Hills head coach Scott Walkinshaw said. "They do a tremendous job."

Black Hills State's Aubrey Baxter and Eric Flores swept the throwing events as each took titles home in the discus and shot put. The duo also won the exhibition hammer throw event.

Yellow Jacket Shannon Hellman won the 100-meter hurdles and long jump in addition to her win in the heptathlon two weeks ago. Hellman also finished second in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.

Black Hills' Cody Brodewyk won the steeplechase and 5,000-meter runs as the Yellow Jackets won 18 combined events in the men's and women's portions of the event.

The Black Hills State men were runner-up to Dickinson State.

The Black Hills women won the conference triple crown - cross-country, indoor and outdoor titles - for the third straight year.

The Jackets have only one senior on the women's team - 800-meter winner Kelley Aline.
