Wyoming state track: Sundance, Wyo., teams fare well

RAPID CITY - The Sundance boys track team took first, and the girls took third in the 2007 Wyoming State Track & Field

Championships in Casper last weekend.

The boys won three events on their way to a second consecutive state title. Felix Cornel took first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.72 seconds, and Cody Emrick took first in both the 800-meter run and the 1,600 run with times of 2:01.29 in the 800 and 4:39.86 in the 1,600.

A second-place finish in the boys 1,600-meter relay race locked up the state title for the Bulldogs with 76 overall points.

The girls also took first in three events and finished third overall with 77 points.

Sidney Materi won both the 100- and the 200-meter dashes with times of :12.86 in the 100 and :26.62 in the 200. Materi also placed second in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 11 inches.

The other state champion on the girls side was Chantelle D'Spain, who won the discus with a heave of 114 feet, 8 inches.
