AREA SCENE: Three more golfers qualify during Day 2 of shootout

RAPID CITY - Three more golfers advanced to the semifinals of the WDT-YMCA $100,000 Hole-in-One Shootout during action Thursday.

Those three golfers will join two who qualified Wednesday to compete in today's semifinals along with anyone else who qualified Friday.

Through the qualifying rounds, any participant who makes a shot within a predetermined distance from the hole will qualify for the semifinals held today. The top five participants closest to the hole during the semifinals will go on to the final $100,000 Shootout held at 1 p.m. today.

Weather cancels racing

Wet weather cancelled Friday night's American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region races at Black Hills Speedway. Friday night's races won't be made up. There will be one show tonight at

7:30 p.m. at the speedway.

Tom Egan to enter SDGA hall of fame

SIOUX FALLS - Tom Egan, of Sioux Falls, will be inducted into the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame during a ceremony held Friday at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls.

The induction ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. MDT in the President's West Room at Minnehaha CC. The public is invited to attend.

Egan was an original member of the SDGA Board of Directors, serving from 1971 to 1978 and was president of the organization in 1972. A former member of the board of directors at Elmwood Golf Course and Westward Ho Country Club, Egan was instrumental in bringing the1996 USGA Girls Junior Championship to Westward Ho, serving as tournament director. He also served as the executive director of the SDGA in 1996-1997.

Rush at the mall today

RAPID CITY - Rapid City Rush player-assistant Mark DeSantis and the Rush mascot will be making an appearance at the Rushmore Mall today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. They will be at the Rush cart outside of Scheels.

Rush staff will also be available to answer questions regarding the upcoming Rush inaugural season and information on season-ticket packages.

This will be the first of three appearances for the Rush at the Rushmore Mall as players and the mascot will be at the Rush cart on Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as well.
