RAPID CITY - Rapid City Stevens and crosstown rival Rapid City Central met on the softball diamond for the first time this season as the Raiders pulled out a 1-0 victory in extra innings Tuesday night.
Cara Lemmon hit a sacrifice single to second base, allowing Logan LaFlour to score the winning run in the eighth inning.
"Both teams played extremely well for early in the season," Stevens head coach Rick DenHerder said. "A lot of defense and both teams hit the ball well."
Junior Kelsey Chambers picked up the win in the circle for Stevens while Cami Johnson took the loss.
"It was a well-rounded effort and Chambers did well for her first outing against Central," DenHerder said.
Rapid City Stevens improved to 3-0 with the win and will play in a tournament in Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend along with the Cobblers.
The Raiders first opponent will be Rocky Mountain High, which is a rematch of last year's championship game which Stevens won.
