SIOUX FALLS - The South Dakota High School Coaches Association has named Robin Burgard of Sioux Falls Lincoln as boys' basketball coach of the year.
The Patriots won the Class AA state title in March with a 25-0 record.
Burgard recently resigned as coach to spend more time with his family and his career as a real estate agent.
He coached Lincoln for five seasons after being an assistant.
Stevens football holding informational meeting: Attention parents and players of any student that is interested in playing football at Stevens High School next fall. The 2009 freshman through seniors will have an informational meeting Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Stevens High School Commons.
The meeting will give you information on camps and dates and costs. Also a schedule for when the weight room is going to be open during the offseason. Football times and dates for next season.
Sturgis head boys' basketball coach Ethan Dschaak steps dowN: Beginning July 1, Sturgis head boys' basketball coach Ethan Dschaak will leave his post as assistant principal of Sturgis Elementary School and Sturgis Williams Middle School to begin serving as principal of Piedmont Stagebarn Elementary School.
Dschaak, a graduate of Belle Fourche High School and Black Hills State University, said the timing of the move was about as good as it could have been, despite the Scoopers having a rough 2008-09 campaign.
The resignation increases the number of open basketball coaching positions in the Black Hills to four.
The Lead-Deadwood boys, Newell boys, and Rapid City Stevens girls will all have new coaches next season. The Hot Springs boys will also have a new coach, John Notheis, after Kim Henningsen stepped down.
