RAPID CITY - The Denver Broncos Exhibition Basketball team will take on the Rapid City Jaycees on Saturday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at Rapid City Central High School in what has been one of the Jaycees bigger fundraisers over the years.

"It's a fun event for the Jaycees and the fans," said Erica George, vice president of fundraising for the Jaycees.

"The money that is raised goes to Camp Friendship, a summer camp in the Black Hills catering to individuals with physical and developmental disabilities," said George.

At the camp the Campers can go swimming, do arts and crafts, have campfires and cookouts, sing songs, go fishing, dress up for the dance, perform skits, and make life-long friends.

The camp is staffed by a family of over 150 volunteers that provide one-on-one care and assistance for each camper as well as creating all of the program activities.

Billy Thompson a former defensive back and now the director of Community Outreach for the Broncos, played in a couple of the games over the years against the Jaycees in Rapid City.

"It's always a hoot," said Thompson.

"The people in Rapid City are always very accommodating. It was a fun trip for everyone involved."

"The players throw out souvenirs and get the crowd involved during the game and then stay afterwards and sign autographs and mingle with the fans," said George.

Making the trip this year for the Broncos will be some familiar faces that will be bringing plenty of experience on the gridiron, if not the hardwood.

Ron Egloff has taken over the duties of running the team and has been involved since his playing days.

"After I retired from the NFL, I picked it back up and have been running it ever since."

When asked if he could compete, bringing only five players, Egloff said with a chuckle.

"Most of us have played some basketball at one point or another."

We always manage to find a local ringer or two from the crowd prior to the game."

"We do these types of events all year long," said Egloff. "It's always great to be able to help out and get involved in a community or a project."

Tickets can be purchased at Bob's BP on Mt. Rushmore Road, or at the door. Ticket prices are $3.50 for children, $7 for adults or $20 for families.

Anyone interested in promoting an event or charity and would like to have the Denver Broncos involved can contact Ron Egloff at 720-275-0420. They are available for softball games, golf, dinners as well as the basketball games.
