SPEARFISH - Rocky Mountain College rallied for an 88-76 win over Black Hills State in an early-season matchup of unbeaten teams on Friday evening in the Yellow Jackets' home opener at the Young Center.

Nate Richardson, a 5-foot-6 junior guard, topped all scorers with a game-high 28 points. Chase Sukut and Devin Uskoski netted 22 and 12, respectively, for the Billings, Mont., team.

Parker Emerson and Cain Atkinson paced BHSU with 15 points apiece. Luke Enos tossed in 11 points.

The two teams were deadlocked four times in the early minutes of the contest. The Jackets went on a 14-0 scoring surge, claiming a 22-8 edge. Emerson and Atkinson each drained a pair of trifectas during the outburst.

Back-to-back treys by Dwayne Johnson and Sukut shaved the BHSU lead to

27-22. The hosts held a 30-27 halftime advantage. Emerson tallied 14 of his points in the first half.

After a three-pointer by Spencer Childress handed BH a 37-32 lead, the Battlin Bears went on a 22-6 run, taking control of the game.

BHSU had a better field goal percentage - 52 to 45 percent - and owned a 35-32 edge on the boards. However, 22 turnovers plagued the Jackets.

"Rocky Mountain is a good team, but we were our own worst enemy," said BHSU coach Paul Sather.

"When things weren't going well, we lacked discipline on offense and defense. They took advantage of it. We didn't make good decisions with the ball.

"We did a good job of coming out for the first 10 minutes. From that point on, until three minutes left in the game, we were stagnant."

A key factor in the Battlin Bears' win was 19-of-25 accuracy at the charity stripe.

BHSU (2-1 overall) hosts another Frontier Conference team, Montana Tech, at 3 p.m. today.
